The Burke Town School, serving children in PreK-grade 8, seeks a .6 teacher who will personalize our students’ learning experiences using a blended model of teaching.  This teaching position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about working with upper elementary and middle school students and thrives on creating dynamic, rigorous learning opportunities. The educator in this position acts as a personal learning planner, small group instructor and coordinates individualized student learning between the students and families and the Burke Town School teachers given an alternative schedule and classroom setting.  Currently, students with individualized education needs participate in various programs outside the school. The blended learning program is designed to meet the needs of any student who participates in an approved activity. The educator will be solely responsible for creating a teaching and learning program that meets Common Core State Standards and the Burke Town School mathematics, science and humanities curricula. The individualized program adapts to the student’s individualized schedule yet balances the rigorous academic requirements using a learning approach that includes off-campus small group instruction, in-class support at the Burke Town School and live stream or recorded online lessons.  A sense of humor and genuine love for working with young people in 5th through 8th grades is a necessity. This is a perfect position for a creative, technologically savvy teacher who enjoys the rural winter life in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.

Burke Town School is seeking applications for a 0.5 Mathematics Interventionist to accelerate student math growth & development informed by ongoing assessment data. Interventionist provides short term, daily, tier II support targeting identified skill or set of skills to improve student outcomes in a small group setting in a VT MTSS-RTII framework using Eureka, Bridges and CMP III supplemental curricular intervention materials, and will use OGAP interim assessments and end of unit assessments to determine progress.   The individual will be part of a collaborative team including classroom teachers, special educators and interventionists. Burke Town School, Newark Street School and the Kingdom East School District seek 2.0 dynamic, high quality World Language Teachers (preferably French or Spanish) to join our K-8 schools.  Teacher must plan, organize, and implement a curriculum that explores a world language, history and culture. Integration of multimedia technology, texts and conversation expected. Experience with collaborative teaming, positive behavior interventions, formative assessments and Responsive Classroom/Developmental Designs practices preferred. The Concord school is seeking a Physical Education Teacher.  The Educator is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.  This position has the possibility to be combined with other positions to make full time.

  1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness and  individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by Kingdom East School District/Concord School and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in Kingdom East through planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
  3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
  4. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with Kingdom East/Concord School’s standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior through Concord School’s PBIS philosophy to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  6. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  7. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  8. Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
  9. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
  10. Communicates with parents and the school counselor/nurse on student progress.
  11. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  12. Administers testing in accordance with Vermont practices
  13. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  14. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.

The Site Coordinator will:

  • design and manage academic and enrichment programs
  • supervise staff and students (grades K-8)

PreSchool Special Ed Long Term Substitute

KESD is seeking applicants for a long-term substitute pre-school Special Educator to cover a 16- week leave of absence from November 1, 2018 through February 22, 2109.  The pre-school Special Educator is assigned to KESD schools and community pre-schools under the direction of the Student Services Director. This KESD serves the schools and other community sites in the towns of Burke, Concord, Gilman-Lunenberg, Lyndon, Newark, Sheffield, Sutton and Wheelock.

The preferred candidate will have experience in developing and implementing specialized instruction for preschools.  Applicants should demonstrate the ability to successfully develop and coordinate individualized education program, identify and evaluate developmental benchmarks within our preschool population and provide consultation to other teachers, parents, and care-providers.

KESD seeks highly qualified special educators for the 2019-2020 school year to fulfill the role of Consulting Special Educator. These positions provide critical direction and consultation to our Content Specialists and Interventionists serving our learners with special needs. In addition to the consultative role, Consulting Special Educators provide leadership in the facilitation  and development of effective individualized education programs (IEPs) and the coordination of related services designed to support our students’ learning. The positions require applicants possess a thorough understanding of special education law, cognitive/social emotional development, IEP development and classroom interventions within a tiered system of supportive instruction. This first year of a unique Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Adventure Program will provide students in grades 6, 7 and 8 the opportunity to learn STEM skills through a series of nine field trips to a variety of community partner sites during the 2019-2020 school year.  The STEM Adventure Coordinator will provide meaningful opportunities for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing about STEM activities and careers, as well as provide students with technical experience and training that links hands-on work with community partners to school learning during the day.   There is an opportunity to combine this with a STEM academic position to make it full time.

The STEM Adventure Coordinator will: 

*Develop a district wide student leadership council for students in grades 6-8

*Host Zoom Video Conference meetings with the student leadership council to enable students to collaborate across our schools in planning field trips.

*Recruit, hire and supervise 10 Adventure Leaders 

*Recruit and supervise up to 50 students during the trips

*Manage all details of the Adventure trips (locations, meals, transportation, scheduling)

*Design planning and reflection activities for each trip

*Develop systems of monitoring and showcasing academic outcomes and student-led end-of-year culmination projects.

KESD is seeking a Behavioral Interventionist (BI) to provide intensive support and therapeutic interventions to students with behavioral and social/emotional special needs.
This position is based  in the Collaborative Program at Lyndon Town School, working under the direction of a special educator and the supervision of the principal.  The BI will implement intensive, goal-directed, student-centered services that provides access to standards-based instruction.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Human services or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years providing instruction and/or therapeutic support under the requirements of an individual education program. Preference given to experiences with social skills development, autism, behavior management and de-escalation skills. Knowledge of PBIS a plus.
