October updates

Happy October!

Family Fun Night!

Last Thursday, families attended the book fair (sponsored by the Friends of MRS) and played math games, while enjoying delicious baked ziti and Caesar salad. Free math games to play at home were offered and many took advantage of the book fair. Overall, it was a great night and we look forward to doing a similar event at Author’s Night in February!

Health and Safety:

Every October is Fire Safety Month. Our own Sheffield-Wheelock Fire Department will be doing training with our students on Friday morning, this week, at 8:15 AM. They also bring over a fire truck for all to see!

As winter creeps in, we remind everyone NOT to leave cars idling at any time, especially when coming into the building in the morning and afternoon drop-off times. For everyone’s health, please turn your car off when you are stopping to come into the building. Thank you!

The Friends of MRS have a survey available online—see our FaceBook for the link!

Winter Activities:

The first set of winter activities forms is attached. Please return by Friday, November 15th.

3rd grade violin adoptions

October 24th, 3rd graders will be able to adopt their violins, between 4-5 PM.

Yearbooks have arrived and we have a limited number for sale—just $10!

8th grade is selling fire wood raffle tickets—see an 8th grader for your chance to buy a ticket to win—the drawing is this Friday, October 25th!

  • Also, candy-gram orders are  due Monday, Oct 28

Friends of Miller’s Run School

The Friends are continuing to collect box tops for education. The Box Tops program is slowly phasing into a phone app tool. This means that the ones you have been saving will expire in the near future! Please turn in all the box tops you’ve collect by Monday, Oct 28th, so they can be redeemed and watch for further information on the new app program.

After-school program:

The next session begins on Monday, November 4th. Signup commitments are due on Tuesday, Oct 29th. Students need to be signed up for the activity for the session to participate.

As a reminder, enrichment sessions run through 4:45 PM, so it is best for the students for parents to pick up at that time or until 5:15.

Check out our Facebook, Twitter, and website for upcoming events and other information. Please feel free to call or email with questions, concerns, comments, or accolades!

Enjoying the beautiful colors,

Mr. Ham
