Projects & Community:

This is our third year working with VREC Vermont Rural Education Collaborative. Through this collaborative two of our teachers, Allana Page and Jessica Kenyon, along with seven students ranging from grades 3-8 wrote a proposal for a portable outdoor bread oven. They were awarded grant funding for this place-based learning project. The students plan on making maple-bacon pizza (using their own syrup) that they will sell at the Annual Lunenburg Maple Fest. Our students also plan on making dog biscuits to help support the local animal shelter.

Professional Development: We are in our third year working with Dr. Martha Dubuque in the area of Reading Strategies Across the Curriculum. Dr. Dubuque conferences monthly with our teachers guiding/supporting to establish points of consistency across the reading curriculum. Another area of focus for us this year is the writing curriculum. Several teachers were trained last summer on the implementation of the Teachers College Writing Units of Study. Our teachers spend the early release days working in PLCs Professional Learning Communities sharing students’ work, collaborating, and planning together. The progress that our students have made since the beginning of the school year is evident and exciting!

Kingdom East: Many have been leary and sceptical of the outcomes pertaining to the implementation of Act 46. I would like to take this opportunity to voice what our experience has been in this short time. The merger has been a positive experience for our students and staff. Being a part of a larger district has given us more support, more resources, and a larger group of educators to collaborate with. We are also very grateful that through this merger our students have access to the Kingdom East After-School Program which has been a huge success.
