Upcoming Outdoor Winter Events Happening this February

Youth Environmental Summit

When: October 28, 2022, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm      Where: In-person/Barre Civic Center)

The Youth Environmental Summit (YES) is an annual event for students in grades 6-12 who want to learn about environmental issues and find ways to take action. At YES participants engage in hands-on workshops, action-inspiring discussions, networking with environmental professionals and like-minded peers, and much, much more!

We are excited to announce a few upcoming, free, ski events through KEAP. Please review the details below and follow the links to register for any you are interested in.


Wednesday Night Ski @ the Lyndon Outing Club:

KEAP is sponsoring night skiing on Wednesdays in February and March at the Outing Club. Middle School students can be dropped off at 6pm, and picked up by 8pm. KEAP will cover the cost of skiing and staff will supervise 5-8th grade students. K-4 students may attend, with a parent chaperone. Students must have their own skis/snowboards to participate and be comfortable riding the lift and skiing downhill. Students who ski with Concord School or LTS 6-8th grade can use the skis they use for their school ski program. Lessons will not be provided. This event is weather dependent and space is limited. February Break XC Ski Day & Overnight Camp:

KEAP will hold a cross country ski camp over February Break, February 27th - March 3rd, for 5th-8th Grade Students with Vermont Huts. Monday and Friday will be local day trips, Tuesday-Thursday will be a two-night overnight trip with the Vermont Huts Association. Click here for more information and to register. Space is limited. This camp is free and all gear and meals (breakfast, snack & lunch) are provided. Students should have some experience cross country skiing to attend.


SheJumps & KEAP Jr. Ski Patrol Event:

KEAP is collaborating with SheJumps and Burke Mountain to hold a Jr. Ski Patrol Event on March 19th. KESD girls in grades 3-8th will be introduced to ski patrol through workshops on first aid, weather, toboggans, etc. The event is free and includes a lift ticket, lunch and snacks. Click here for more information and to register. Space is limited, once you register on this form you will receive a confirmation code to register for free through SheJumps as a KESD student. Girls must have their own skis/snowboards to participate and should be intermediate/advanced skiers comfortable riding the chairlift (no lessons will be provided). Students who ski with Concord School or LTS 6-8th grade can use the skis they use for their school ski program.


Tuesday/Thursday Afterschool Winter Outdoor Club:

KEAP hosts Winter Outdoor Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5pm for 5th-8th grade students. Transportation is provided from KESD schools to Darling Hill. Students cross country ski, snowshoe and/or sled on the Kingdom Trails with Northwoods and KEAP staff. Click here for more information and to register. Pick up is at 5pm on Darling Hill, or 5:30pm at Concord School. The program is free, students receive a snack and all gear to participate.


Snowshoe 101 Events:

KESD is partnering with NEK Prosper to offer two Snowshoe 101 events: February 18th at the Rail Trail in St. Johnsbury and March 3rd at the St. Johnsbury Town Forest. Students should plan to attend with an adult family member. KEAP staff are providing instruction, but not supervision for the event. Both events are free and start at 10am.
