PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Professional Learning: We Believe:

“A Professional Learning Community is a collaboration of teachers, administrators, parents, and students who work together to seek out best practices, test them in the classroom, continuously improve processes, and focus on results.” -Richard DuFour, 2002

Throughout our KESD learning community, we believe that all teachers should have quality professional learning opportunities…
  • Teachers want—and benefit the most from—job-embedded professional learning that happens within their school day.
  • Teachers reap tremendous benefits from working with teams of colleagues—especially those who teach the same grade or subject—to plan and share effective practices.
  • Professional learning should be anchored in a strong instructional system that includes coherent and relevant materials, tools, and curricula that are aligned to high standards.

“When a school or district functions as a PLC, educators within the organization embrace high levels of learning for all students as both the reason the organization exists and the fundamental responsibility of those who work within it.”  -Richard DuFour, Rebecca DuFour, Robert Eaker, Thomas W. Many, and Mike Mattos
