Lyndonville, VT – Rachel Robillard has been hired to serve as the next principal at Sutton School which is part of the Kingdom East School District. The current principal, Ken Hayes is retiring at the end of June.

In late April, Kingdom East posted the position and a robust pool of nine qualified candidates sought the position. A search committee which included several teachers, board members, parents and peer administrators reviewed the candidates and selected several to interview. After the interviews a second day long visit occurred which included a meet- and-greet-the-candidate. This day long visit included two parent meetings (one in the early morning and one in the afternoon), classroom visits, Q & A with students and support staff, reading in the younger grades to students, and a number of other interactive times including a mock faculty meeting. During the day long visit over 45 evaluation forms were completed and they all overwhelming supported Ms. Robillard.

Rachel Robillard received her bachelor’s in education from Lyndon State College in 2006. Her masters of science from the University of Vermont in May 2019, In addition her principal licensure from the Upper Valley Educators Institute in Lebanon, NH is anticipated in June 2019.


Ms. Robillard has been in education since 2006 and has served in a number of roles including as a District mentoring coordinator, math and formative assessment coach and an elementary school teacher. She has served on school and district committees and in multiple leadership capacities including school improvement, mathematics, report card, the crisis team and technology committees. She has been part of hiring and search teams. This past April, Ms. Robillard served as an interim Principal at Sutton. Ms. Robillard brings a wealth of experience and passion to her leadership.


Ms. Robillard lives in Sutton with her husband and two children. Together they like to hike, mountain bike, ski, and frequent Crystal Lake in the summer. Ms. Robillard shared, “I am humbled to be selected to serve as the next principal at Sutton School,” then pausing she added, “I am excited for the opportunity to be part of the community and support the dedicated staff. I want to serve Sutton Village School as we continue to provide a high quality education.”


Superintendent Jennifer Botzojorns shared, “After a search process of many qualified candidates, we are thankful to have someone of Ms. Robillard’s expertise. She is committed to the community and District and will continue to support Sutton where there are, ‘successful students, devoted teachers and a caring community’.” Sutton School is part of the Kingdom East School District which has been in existence since July 1, 2018. The District merged seven town school districts and eight communities including Burke, Concord, Lunenburg, Lyndon, Newark, Sutton, Sheffield, and Wheelock.


Ms. Robillard will attend one or two Sutton School events this spring and begin her full time position on July 1.
