Baseball and Softball are back! The Concord/Lunenburg teams took the field at Blue Mountain yesterday for the first time in more than five years. Both teams lost, baseball 16-1 and softball 10-2, but it was a great first game effort on a wet afternoon.
Darby Peters and Tyson Fortin each pitched from 60', for the first time and in relief for the baseball team, and Eli Kelley scored the team's lone run after stealing two bases.
The softball team started strong with the score 1-0 after three innings, and 3-1 at the end of four. Samara Rutledge struck out seven in a complete game on the mound and scored both of the C/L runs. Makayla Savage had three hits and Malie Hill and Ashtyn Chadburn each had an RBI.
The teams will return to Blue Mountain next Monday for a re-match.
A six run 4th inning rally put the KESD 8th grade boys ahead of Oxbow for good in a 14-7 win on the road Monday, 5/3 afternoon. KESD jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but a five run rally in the bottom of the 3rd gave Oxbow a 6-3 advantage. It wasn't enough to keep the KESD boys down as they answered with six of their own in the top of the 4th to take a 9-6 lead. The KESD boys weren't finished as they added five more in the 5th for a 14-7 victory. Wyatt Mason and Casey Prue lead the KESD offense with 2 hits and 3 runs each. Ethan Lussier started on the mound for KESD, recording five strike outs on the day. Solid relief pitching by Casey Prue and Julian Thrailkill sealed the win. Thrailkill showed an impressive pick off move sniping both baserunners he allowed in his one inning of work.
One run was all the offense the KESD 8th grade boys could muster in a 5-1 loss to a talented Blue Mountain squad Friday afternoon. The BMU defense played flawless baseball, fielding all but 2 balls the KESD offense put in play. A great pitching performance by BMU Kasen Blood (2 hits, 9 k's) kept the KESD offense off the board until the 6th inning when a double by Julian Thrailkill and an RBI single by Parker Norway erased the zero. The BMU offense chipped away, scattering 5 runs over 6 innings for the win. Solid defense play throughout by the KESD team stalled BMU from initiating any big offensive innings. Joe Schabler sparked the KESD defense running down a deep line drive down the right field chalk. Schabler showed off his cannon firing a strike to start a 9-4-6-5 relay to gun the runner down at 3rd trying to stretch a triple. It was a gutty performance by KESD starter Wyatt Mason giving up only four hits while recording eight strike outs in four innings of work. Casey Prue pitched the final two frames for KESD, allowing only two hits in relief. The KESD 8th grade boys move on to play Danville on the road Monday afternoon at 5:00pm.
