February 7, 2025

Meet Gwyn Stahl, Lyndon Town School Science Teacher!

Gwyn Stahl, also known as Ms. Stahl, to her 6th grade students, has worked with Lyndon Town School and Kingdom East School District for 7 years!

Gwyn has always had a deep love for science, fascinated by the way it explains the world around us. Her passion for discovery and curiosity about how things work sparked a desire to share that excitement with others. Wanting to inspire children to explore the wonders of the scientific world, she decided to become a teacher. Through teaching, she hopes to ignite the same sense of wonder and curiosity in her students, encouraging them to ask questions, experiment, and develop a lifelong appreciation for science.

Ms. Stahl was asked questions regarding her time at Lyndon Town School. Below are some of the questions that were asked, followed by her answers.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working in a school?

Answer:  "Creating relationships and memories with middle school students. Also, doing cool experiments in class".

Q: What have been some of your favorite moments as an educator?

Answer:  "In my first year of teaching, I taught the 7th grade about the human body. They had a mystery patient "Jane Doe" who had symptoms of a illness. Throughout the unit, while we learned about the human body, students would get more information about her sickness. At the end, students had to diagnose her and come up with a treatment. This was such a fun unit filled with hands-on activities that the kids could really relate to. One activity, I had students reach into boxes blindfolded and they needed to describe and predict what was  inside the box. I had things like cooked pasta, boiled eggs, and raw cauliflower. This activity taught them about muscle memory and lead into learning about the nervous system. Looking back at pictures I took during the activity I can see the students really enjoying the lesson and creating memories".

Q: What are you looking forward to about this school year?

Answer:  "The 6th Grade is planning a project based unit for the end of the year. We are excited to try something new that is hands-on and engaging for our students. We hope this is one of the highlights that our students can look back on and remember doing in future years".

Q:  Is there a quote or saying related to education that you feel has shaped who you are as an educator?

Ms. Stahl's favorite quote relating to education, "The answers to your questions are all around you if you only look," perfectly reflects her approach to education. Sometimes, this message is as simple as reminding students to check the board for directions before asking a question. However, on a deeper level, it speaks to the power of curiosity and exploration in learning. When a student is genuinely curious about something, they begin to observe, question, and seek out knowledge in the world around them. Ms. Stahl encourages her students to embrace this mindset, fostering independence, critical thinking, and a love for discovery that extends far beyond the classroom.

Thank you, Ms. Stahl, for your seven years of dedication to Lyndon Town School and Kingdom East School District. Your love for science and learning has been a constant source of inspiration for your students, sparking their curiosity and encouraging them to explore the wonders of the scientific world. Through your hands-on teaching techniques, you make learning engaging and exciting, allowing students to actively participate in experiments and discoveries. Your passion and commitment to education have left a lasting impact, and your students are better learners because of it.
