January 7, 2025

On December 29, 2024, the world mourned the passing of James Earl Carter Jr., the 39th President of the United States. President Carter was known for his integrity, dedication to public service, and commitment to peace. His leadership was marked by a deep sense of empathy and belief in human rights and justice.

President Carter’s leadership was instrumental in the creation and shaping of two crucial government departments. Under his administration, the Department of Education was established in 1979, emphasizing Carter's commitment to improving access to quality education for all Americans. Similarly, the Department of Energy was founded in response to the energy crises of the 1970s, with Carter prioritizing energy conservation and alternative energy solutions. Both departments reflected his forward-thinking approach to addressing key issues that would shape the future of the nation.

Post-presidency, President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, devoted themselves to humanitarian causes. Carter's humanitarian work, including his efforts with Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center, further exemplified his compassion and global vision for a more equitable world.

President Jimmy Carter's passing marks the end of a remarkable era in American history, as he leaves behind a legacy of peace, humanitarian efforts, and unwavering dedication to public service. His contributions as the 39th President of the United States, along with his lifelong commitment to improving global health and promoting democracy, will be remembered and celebrated for generations.

In the Proclamation announcing the death of James Earl Carter, Jr. a National Day of Mourning was declared by President Biden, which will take place on Thursday, January 9th, to honor the passing of President Carter. As the nation mourns his loss, it is also a time to reflect on the values he upheld and the countless lives he touched.
