December 16, 2020

None of us could have predicted a year ago the challenges of the current pandemic. We are so proud of our children, families, teachers, and community for being able to successfully attend school and to educate our children in-person at Lyndon Town School since September. We have had a few groups pivot to remote learning temporarily, however our hard work together has allowed us to continue in-person schooling with only a few interruptions. This has made a difference in the learning and developmental growth of our children. We are so thankful for how resilient, adaptable and dependable everyone has been!

We have heard from many in our school community that families will need to gather with extended family households and dependents over the Winter Holiday Break. As per the directive from the governor (link here), the change in definitions of households and the requirement to quarantine, it has been determined that we are unable to safely open Lyndon Town School for in-person instruction on January 4th. When we return from December break, we will pivot to remote learning for two weeks, from January 4th to January 15th. This quarantine period in early January will allow all families, children, faculty and staff to return safely to school for in -person instruction on Tuesday, January 19.

Below is information about the remote learning schedule and meals. All of us have worked to finalize remote learning plans (linked below). Any additional information will be communicated to families before we leave for the Winter Holiday Break. Devices will go home with students on Wednesday, December 23rd.

You, or someone that you designate, may pick up the FREE breakfast and lunch at Lyndon Town School for ALL children in your household any day Monday – Friday between the hours of 3:30pm and 5:00pm (pick up takes place at the cafeteria entrance). We can not thank you enough for your continued dedication, optimism and perseverance since August (and March last year)! Please see the attached reminders regarding travel, gatherings, and quarantining.

Sincerely,

Amy Gale

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: GATHERINGS, TRAVEL, AND QUARANTINING

Multi-Household Social Gatherings: Per Governor’s Executive Order: As of November 14, 2020, you are not allowed to gather with people you don’t live with. This includes all inside and outside social, recreational and entertainment gatherings, and in public and private spaces.

All family members participating in multi-household social gatherings must quarantine for 14 days after. The last day of these gatherings is considered your “Day 0”.

Out of State Travel: All family members that travel out of the State of VT for non-essential reasons must quarantine for 14 days after returning. The day you return home is your “Day 0”.

What does it mean to quarantine? Per the Vermont Department of Health (VDH): Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from other people. Quarantine means you need to stay home and away from other people for 14 days. This means you can’t do any activities outside of your home, like going to school, work, or grocery shopping, or recreation. You should separate yourself from others and check for symptoms.

Return to Work/School Options:

  1. Quarantine for 14 days as described above. If you remain symptom free during these 14 days, you may return to work/school/normal activities on day 15.
  2. Quarantine as described above. On Day 7 you may get a COVID-19 test. This must be a PCR test. Remain quarantined until you receive a negative test result.

More information about social gatherings, out of state travel, and quarantining can be found on VDH website linked here: https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19/travel-quarantine
